10.10.2024 | Nobel Prize Nomination for Vitalik Buterin
Renowned economist Tyler Cowen has nominated Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin as a candidate for the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences. This initiative has also received support from another prominent expert, Professor Alexander Tabarrok.
Both economists praised Vitalik for his significant contributions to the monetary economics of cryptocurrencies, emphasizing that his work has far surpassed that of any other economist. According to Cowen, Buterin has built the brilliant Ethereum platform and created a digital currency that challenges Mises' regression theorem. This theorem suggests that the value of money can be traced back ("regressed") to the value of goods and services from which it derived its worth.
Cowen and his colleagues also acknowledged Buterin's ongoing efforts to develop the Ethereum network, noting that he would make an excellent speaker at the Nobel Prize ceremony (should he win), as he is known to be a polite and engaging individual. Additionally, they highlighted Buterin’s philanthropic activities, such as his 2021 donation of $1 billion to the COVID-Crypto Relief Fund.
